James Thrall, MD

Chairman Emeritus at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Distinguished Taveras Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School Boston, MA

Dr. James Thrall received his M.D. from the University of Michigan and trained in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He taught at the University of Michigan and served as the Chairman of Radiology at Henry Ford Hospital before taking the helm as Chairman of the Radiology Department at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Thrall led groundbreaking digital transformation efforts at MGH and worked with Dr. Hassan Sharif to develop the first iteration of WorldCare and global medical second opinions powered through the electronic sharing of radiology and pathology reports between healthcare specialists. In addition to being a founding member of the company, he has been Chairman of the Board since 1996.

Dr. Thrall has held many leadership and board positions within leading North American and global radiology associations. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and has received Gold Medals from the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Radiological Society of North America, and the Association of University Radiologists. Internationally, Dr. Thrall is an Honorary Member of the French Society of Radiology and the European Society of Radiology and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists. Additionally, he has authored over 350 scientific publications.
